Comments
Comments: Perhaps about a third of the loop is snow free.
From the boardwalk to the Yellow junction, there's generally frozen snow/icepack with a coating of spring snow from overnight. The blue ice was soft with the warm temperatures/sun this afternoon, so perhaps that snow will bond to it and improve footing.
Yellow steeps had blue ice lurking underneath, but there were also bare patches. I booted the ascent, but probably would have used traction if I descended this trail.
Up on the ridge, there were extended bare spots in the open areas.
Mt. Rowe Trail had some long bare stretches, but also stretches of ice monorail. Trail is generally gradual, so I was able to bareboot it for the descent.
Where there is snowpack, it's 1 to 3 inches in depth.
