Comments
Comments: mast road was previously tracked out and had thin cover to start the snow being quite wet and sticky. still plenty of coverage for snowshoes. depths increased higher up and on the lawrence trail. less tracked to paugus pass with more wet snow. once past the pass there were some fresh tracks in deeper snow up over the minor bump where cabin trail joins. probably some of the deeper snow i have seen this year in this area. the sidehill heading towards paugus in open woods had much thinner cover, but better coverage returned heading into the switchbacks on paugus. a couple of the upper switches had ice under the snow and a little exposed, but adhesion and traction were pretty good. a couple sections could get dicey if the surface snow melts and we then get a hard freeze. up on the south summit i met the gentleman, bryan/brian (didn't get his spelling, but a great name) who was laying the tracks ahead of me and as we both had the same plan of bushwhacking to the north peak we headed that way together droppping back down the trail for a minute or two then heading off towards the summit. for the most part we hit good lines in occasionally scrappy woods with just one thicker sections before reaching the highpoint. from there we followed our tracks back out to the trail and headed down. nice to chat about hiking on the way out. also nice to run into val and mark out there today.
