| Water Crossing Notes: |
There's a reason I included the Kanc as one of our trails. A man returning from his hike told us he broke through the ice and got his foot wet. We're short and would have had a hard time stretching from one rock to another, even if they were safe enough. We checked Downes Brook out first, then decided his suggestion of the logging road would be better. So did a few other folks we saw. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Excellent! There was only one blowdown, and it was a convenience. It stuck half way into the trail, right over an icy spot. Gave me something to hold on to! |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw none. Probably would have had a hard time with the ice. |
|
| Bugs: |
One spider. Some snow fleas. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Someone left their poles. They are near the kiosk. |

Lots of open scenery along the logging road due to recent logging. An easy walk... But then came the woods walk. Steep areas, lots of ice! We had done this hike in the fall nearly 10 years ago; it seemed different this time. It looked extremely simple on paper, but took us forever to get up there, yet we nearly made book time descending. DO NOT GO HERE WITHOUT YOUR TRACTION!!!! We were fine with microspikes only. Wonderful views! I wish we had started earlier so that we could have sat up there longer. |
