Comments
Comments: we walked a short distance up the road then hit the woods briefly on an old woods road before taking a line towards the peak. we passed through a frozen beaver swamp then started up on moderate grades in open woods. the snow cover was good and fairly firm. we ended up roughly following the west side of the north ridge of the peak up to a flattish plateau where we hit the only real thick going on the hike. some tight spruce full of moose prints for a bit before the woods opened up again on the final climb up towards the summit. occasional scrappy going along the broad summit to the recognized highpoint. there is a higher point nearby that is quite obviously higher.
we were both looking for a shortish hike today and this one worked out great. pretty much dream like snow conditions and overall a much more enjoyable route than we both experienced coming up from the hubbard brook side.
