The was a tiny bit of new snow on top of the breakable crust. There were three people in front of me with spikes. I chose to go up South first and as soon as I started to climb, the snow got deeper and less crusty. About 1/2 way up South from the loop junction, it was just powder. They are some pretty nice drifts on the way over to North. I was glad that I had my snowshoes on. About 4 new inches of snow between South and North. I know that there was ice under there but i didn't have any problem descending in my old MSR snowshoes. Snowed gently all afternoon. |
