Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I had been looking at Lamms trail (aka Bissell road) this winter whenever I drove by, and it appears that no one drives on it right now. I did not stand a chance in a passenger car; not sure about a 4x4. I parked at the Stratford transfer station, about 1/4 mi north on rt. 3. I would not do this when it is open. There was room to park on rt. 3 closer to the road, but all properties are very heavily posted and thickly settled. The lower part of Lamms trail has properties posted on both sides, but the road itself seems to be fair game. The postings end well before the camps, which are not posted. I did not see any posting higher up on this route. I believe that on the east side of the ridge and the south side of spruce, there is posted land.

Comments
Comments: I did this in a T-shaped route, heading to the col and targeting each peak from the col, retracing all of my tracks. I followed Lamms trail past the camps and up through an iron gate. Eventually, I hit a big clearing, where I went straight. I found roads, herd paths, and open woods all the way to the col, which I hit a bit up on the Savage side. Heading up Savage was scrappy in places, with a fair amount of good going too. I had to work around a band of cliffs, which offered some views when I reached the top. The woods near the top are quite open from this direction. When following my tracks down, I detoured around a scramble, that I did not care to go down. The walk to spruce was easy in open woods. Great views on the way down.

I wore snowshoes for all except for the first part the road walk. Snow ranged from 6in to a couple of feet with deeper stuff collecting around spruce and blowdowns. I was sinking no more than 6in. or so most of the time. Trees were snow-coated and occasionally snow-loaded.
