We managed to avoid the ski patrols today by leaving very early and hiking up the glades once we reached them. They seem to head up on snowmobiles around 7AM. About 25 yards off of North Peak on Loon is the start of the Black Mountain ski trail. At ~.6 miles head into the woods to the right. This is right before the trail starts going down and swings towards Black Mountain. The entry point is marked by a can on the right hanging off a branch. We meandered in a SSE heading up Scar's wooded slope avoiding heavy spruce areas until we reached a flatter area (at ~3500 feet). We then turned east continuing up the slope and into the sun for the final push to the summit. We used micro spikes going up and snowshoes coming down. We had a "relatively" easy go of it today, so this week might be a good week to bag Scar for a winter list as the snow isn't very deep.
