Comments
Comments: Started out bare booting until 2600ft on Randolph, then switched to very old microspikes(by choice) then switched to hillsounds at 3200ft and stayed with them until the Perch. Switched over to old microspikes again, which worked perfect because of the rock/minimal ice/ snow above tree line and stayed in them to the end. That way I didn't`t destroy my hillsounds. From the weather of the previous day, Jefferson`s cone got a little snow, Adams got an inch of ice on it`s cone and Madison had both on it`s cone. So very much a mixed bag today. But in these conditions I felt that my old dull microspikes worked very well. All the ice was soft so the microspkes were very stable. Lots of running water in the trails and low areas. Carried my snowshoes mainly because of 3 spots that I wasn`t sure of: Randolph can have a lot of snow because of it`s northern exposure, Jefferson`s snow fields and upper Valley Way. But the trails were stable enough not to put them on so they took a ride. Views on Jefferson were good, in the fog on Adams and just above the fog on Madison. I was in a tee shirt all day so all in all a great day in the Presi`s. Still a very fast track for winter, 14 miles, 6200ft 7hrs and 50 mins. On a personal note I hope that next winter rears it`s wintry face, lots of snow and cold. The climbs this season have not given me a winter`s challenge.
