Comments
Comments: Cold morning heading up Reel Brook met two fellows returning from Eliza Brook Shelter--they spent two nights there and summited the Kinsmans. I went south on KRT and the snow didn't appear to have been tramped upon and the white AT blazes are faded and few and far between... I made a point of visiting that bog area/pond just off the trail, hit the Wolf's view ledge and found Wolf'shigh point. I was so amazed I was able to open summit jar register-KenM last signed it on Thanksgiving Day. Retracing my foot prints back felt a lot easier and soon I was trying to cross the brook near the shelter and this was the most difficult water crossing I have made this winter--lots of ice and higher water. Snow is deep from the shelter until Harrington Pond--I carried my snowshoes just because I knew the snow is deep here in the spring but it was frozen hard and easy to walk on (though there were post holes from warmer days ever present). Nearing the top of South Kinsman I took off my spikes because of bare ledge and rocks. Across the summit and to North Kinsman I bare booted on the nice packed snow highway. I met a half dozen people on the summits. Ice flows on Mt Kinsman Trail are legendary and they were huge as I expected and I am thankful for the trees and the snow from earlier in the week. I am sure the ice flows will be there through April. Good fun day.
