Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Two small corssings at the start of the Mt. Flagg Trail are bridged.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are a couple of felled tress on the Mt. Flagg Trail which do not impede forward progress. Some spots on the upper portion Mt. Flagg Trail are a little brushy - as are many stretches of the Gorilla Trail. Lots of small branches and broken limbs on this trail also. Both trails are well blazed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw one at the summit of Mt. Shaw which seemed to be enjoying the day.
Bugs
Bugs: None.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: LOST: tinted Uvex safety goggles - probably somewhere in the middle portion of the Gorilla Trail. If on the very slim chance that someone reading this a) actually hikes the Gorilla Trail and b) actually finds them please do drop me a note. Thanks!

Comments
Comments: The lower half of the Mt. Flagg Trail has four awful looking logging paths crossing it - however the owners of the land can do what they want with it and I am thankful for being allowed to hike it. The upper portion of the Mt. Flagg Trail and the Mt. Flagg portion of the Gorilla Trail are fairly rough and are very much like some trails in the Whites in terms of footing. Although the Gorilla Trail is pretty wild it does provide some peek-a-boo views to the Presidentials through the trees and is never really steep despite what it looks like as approaching Mt. Shaw. There were a couple spots of minor ice on the ledges below Mt. Flagg in the morning but those were melting in the afternoon. Other than those and two or three areas of minor snow trying to survive on the Gorilla Trail these trails are free of winter.

One hiker with a dog was on the summit of Mt. Shaw when I got there and two others came in as I was leaving. In between I managed to take a quick nap while basking in the sun. Outside of those folks I did not see anyone on this route which was hardly a surprise. Having the ledges below Mt. Flagg to myself twice was a nice treat. Overall a fun walk in the woods on a beautiful day!
