Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction, Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No major crossings, smaller ones with run-off all easy
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Railing on last bridge crossing Gorge Brook is down, few large blowdowns that haven't changed in the past two months where the winter path goes around, otherwise trails in decent shape
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Hannah had a good day - after all the ice we've dealt with this winter she had no major issues today. Inexperienced dogs would have issues with some steep pitches that are shear ice in the last mile before the summit. Decent amount of open running water for hydrating
Bugs
Bugs: Saw a few down low ...
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a thin blue fleece zippy hoodie near one of the bridges, hung it on a tree, was still there on the way down. Thought I lost my map but accidentally left it in my car.

Comments
Comments: Ravine Lodge road dry and easily bare-bootable. First ice patches by the bridge at the trailhead - I put rock micro's on there and wore them almost all the way to the summit, plenty of bare stretches below 3000' and a few smaller ones up to about 3600-3700', didn't want to dull my better spikes. Some mud through the rerouted section down low but nothing significant. Temps never warmed up for the ice to soften, but there wasn't much of the flow ice we've seen on other trails recently. Some compact snow higher up but traction-wise not much different than the ice. Switched to Hillsounds about half a mile below the summit and they were better on the short steep pitches that were a sheet of pure ice. Last short stretch out of the trees was basically bare ground up to the summit, minimal ice and easily avoidable - no views today but summit winds were fine, maybe 15-20mph. Stayed in Hillsounds almost all the way back to the lodge - sharper micro's might be fine but my rock micro's are super dull and I didn't trust them. Saw about a dozen people, some better prepared than others (didn't ask the college kids in tank tops without traction what was in their tiny backpacks). Great day out with Hannah - happy April!
