Comments
Comments: Decided to go check out Thoreau Falls and go for a decently long hike today. Should have known how wet it'd be on the Ethan Pond trail after all the rain yesterday but went anyway. It was possible to keep my feet mostly dry with careful rock hopping but this got old and tedious pretty quickly. Luckily this got better after Thoreau Falls (which was really impressive given all the water). The only snow to deal with was between the Willey Range junction on Ethan Pond trail and Ethan Pond and then about halfway up A-Z trail which then continued until the Avalon/A-Z trail junction. Some of it was stable monorail but a lot of it was deteriorating, terrible, undermined snow bridges. Especially on a lot of the stream crossings higher up before reaching the Mt. Tom spur between the spur and the zealand side. Lots of running water through the woods around there undermining the monorail on the trail and quite a few sketchy spots because of this. Today was a good but wet day out. The next several days are calling for more rain which combined with the deteriorating snow could soon make some of these trails impassable.
