Parking/Access Road Notes: Mine was the second vehicle in the lot on Stinson Lake Road @ 7:45. Four more were there when I returned just before noon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Sucker Brook can be crossed with caution. I borrowed a stick at the Three Ponds Trail kiosk to assist, ditching it in the woods for use upon return.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: For the most part the Carr Mountain Trail is in good shape in terms of blowdowns. There are a couple of larger ones along the way that have been there for a while which do not impede forward progress. However I noticed that blazes on this trail ascending are yellow but on descent some are yellow and some are blue. Further, if you look closely the newer looking yellow blazes are painted over blue blazes in both directions. The blue blazes start immediately going down and there doesn't seem to be any sort of pattern to this two color scheme. I'm sure there must be a reason for this but I'm just unable to think of one.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I didn't see any but there's plenty of water along the way: off the trail, across the trail and in the trail.
Bugs
Bugs: None.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: There are no issues on this small section of the Three Ponds Trail. On the Carr Mountain Trail however there are many sections which are eroded, host to running water and/or very muddy. I thought I was going to leave the Microspikes in the bag but at about 2.5 miles in there is an icy uphill spot. It MAY be possible to whack around it but I opted to throw the spikes on - then take them off shortly thereafter. Beyond this there are small and sporadic sections of ice which can be trekked with caution - or you can play the on/off game with the spikes. It's probably wise to bring them and make your own decisions.

Early drizzle dissipated shortly after my start though once at the summit the only sights on view were those of mist from passing clouds. Even still, the summit area was fun to explore. Other than one fellow I crossed paths with on the Three Ponds Trail on my way out I didn't see anyone else on this trek.
