I started at the trial head about 1:30am down the road to camp dodge and up the Imp trail I went. Hit the summit of Middle Carter about 3:30 and waited around for what turned out to be and great sunrise. ( I stayed there as I knew I wouldn't make it over to Mt. Height in time). But as I was watching the sunrise in the east, I turned 180 and watched the moonset over Washington. It was almost timed perfectly.
Thee was a monorail of ice but nothing that needed spikes "yet". Continuing along the ridge I did need my spikes going up Mt. Height which lead me to great views today.. Across the ridge I went and saw my first hiker of the day on Wildcat A. I didn't need my spikes again until the section between C peak and D peak for about a 1/4 mile. Then it was clear the rest of the day. Headed down the pole cat ski trail and end my hike with breakfast at the sunrise shack. One of my favorites. |
