This was my first trip as the new adopter of the Mt. Tremont Trail, taking the reins from 1HappyHiker. Thanks for your years of service to this trail!
He had done a spring cleanup already, so this was more of a cleanup cleanup. Overall, the trail is in good shape. I removed seven or so minor stepover blowdowns, and there are a few larger ones I will need to come back for. I also cut back some of the hobble bush that was starting to encroach upon the lower switchbacks. More trimming is needed. Minor muddy areas are muddy, but drainage ditches have been cleaned. Overall, the trail is in fine condition and there's nothing impeding travel.
Just when I thought I was done for the day, near the trailhead I was greeted by a new blowdown which had toppled in today's high winds, and which was not there this morning. I removed that as well.
Chilly and very windy on the summit, looked and felt like November! Didn't expect to see anyone else, but a trail runner passed me at the Stony Brook crossing. |
