| Dog-Related Notes: |
There were not any stream crossings, only a few little pools of mud. So bring plenty of water. There is a fair amount of steep ledge that your dog will need to feel comfortable going up and down. My dog is pretty clumsy and she was fine. |

Great varied terrain from rocky ledge to soft dirt and mud. The first mile and a half or so was very easy cardio wise. The steep (but not scary) rocky ledge and climb to top of mount surprise brought my heart rate up. Great views at the top. The next 2.5 miles were a combo of ledge, wet rocks, mud and roots. 360 degree view at top.
Rained very hard on the way down so rocks/ledge were slippery. Took our time, 3/4 of us did fall but no injuries. Once beyond mt surprise and under the trees, the rain sounded beautiful and was barely getting us wet.
7 hours total with lunch at the top and slow descent over wet ledges |
