Lower trails in good shape. Ascended Gleason Trail (didn't realize until research afterward that WODC stopped maintaining in 2012). Somewhat difficult to follow in lower portions, somewhat overgrown in middle portions, but overall not terribly bad. Beautifully wild and passes by a cascade I'd like to investigate more. Some nasty muddy steep erosion in some sections toward the middle
Bugs were there, but tolerable, mostly in the thick woods (mosquitoes and horseflies).
Had to turn back from summit on account of my 1-year old pup trying to catch a porcupine amidst a fir wave on the upper reaches of the Gleason trail, ~3500 feet elevation. Bounded down Bennett St Trail which is in excellent shape. A special thanks to Sandwich Animal Hospital for fitting him in on short notice. |
