Comments: Took a Meetup Group of 8 to Eagle Cliff and beyond. Went a mile or so up the Greenleaf Trail to Eagle Pass (~3000') area flattens out. Started bushwhack at the first water bar going uphill. A little dicey coming across a low wet area then just took an northwesterly bearing and headed uphill making sure to favor the north, ran into a couple of small cliffs that were easily negotiated. At 3200 we came out into a small meadow, great views back towards Lafayette and a nice resting spot. Leaving there just started heading uphill again and favoring the north. Hit a herd path at about 3300' that took us right to Eagle Cliff about 100 ft from the canister. Say 0.5 miles and a little over an hour to get to the top. The original plan was to locate the old trail and go out by Lafayette Brook and the Governor Gallen Memorial and walk the recreational path to Cannon. We were able to find remnants of the trail along the ridge but every so often we would just be bushwhacking trying to stay on the ridge. Got turned around, a difference of opinion, we made it to the second bump i.e. the Eaglet and the Watcher. There was talk about going down the slid towards the eaglet and picking up the climbers path, but we decided to stay on the ridge. At some point between the second and third bump it was decided to head down an old slide. It was tough go very steep, loose rocks, etc. We moved into the woods on the side and encountered massive blowdowns, moss covered rocks and holes. Took us over 2 hours to come down but as luck had it we came out right at the Greenleaf Trailhead! Tough day after coming down the ridge on the 93 side, I wouldn't recommend it. 3.3 miles and 6-1/2 hours. I think we would have been better off staying on the ridge and coming out farther north. All in all a good day. Celebrated my 2nd year wedding anniversary with my wife on Eagle Cliff. Our honeymoon was spent in Maine and Canada doing the Maine Six-Pack.
