More of a red-lining day. Went up Austin Brook Tr to the AT past Genetian Pond lean-to. Trail is easy to follow. There was a trail that intersected with Austin Brook Tr after the Yellow Tr that was a connector trail to Gates Brook Tr(?) and Middle Mtn Tr that is not on the 29th AMC WMG. After reaching the AT, doubled back to Dryad Falls Tr and went up that. There was some avoidable mud and wet rocks on that trail. Hooked up to Peabody Brook Tr for 0.1 mile to AT. I approached Bald Cap from the west. Went up AT and began bushwack after crossing a swamp. There were a couple of thick spruce zones before eventually reaching the summit. After the summit, I attempted to go south towards the AT but because of some more thick spruce and 15 foot ledges amongst the spruce, I was funneled in a southeasternly direction. Going through some patches of spruce, eventually crossed the AT boundary line and reached the AT later on. Followed the AT west back to the Peabody Brook Tr, then followed the trail to North Road. There were some grassy areas along Austin Brook and Peabody Brook, so I did pull off 3 ticks during the hike. |
