 | Water Crossing Notes: |
None to speak of. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails were in good condition until the section between Mt. Percival and Sandwich Notch Rd. This section has a lot of undergrowth growing into the trail, bog bridges are very rotted (and its probably safer not to use them), And the blazes on the rocks are in desperate need of new paint. Making it hard to follow at times. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
This trail is mostly good for dogs except one section about 3/4 of a mile up from Sandwich notch rd. It a ledge section that was tough even for a human. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Deer flies were awful today and they were all bitters for sure. |

Started out in the rain this morning and very humid. Up Cotton Mt. witch is a moderate steep incline and decline. Same over Livermore. The best section of trail i think is on to Mt. Morgan. Very smooth and runable. Up to Morgan and Percival avoiding the 15 foot ladder and everything was slipper. After Percival headed north gets very interesting. Very tough to hike and pretty much untunable as there are a lot of ups/downs over smaller but steep ledges. Lots of standing water and bad bog bridges. At the junction of the Doubleheader trail i dropped my pack (with the intention of coming right back up to get it and go down the Doubleheader trail) to run the 2 miles i had left done to the road. Oh, and there is a ledge in this section going down. The rocks were slippery today and there is nothing but a section of 2x4 bolted to the rock for traction. I crab walked going down. Its a pretty awkward section. Once i got to the road i decided going back up that way was to much for me. So i got a ride to the other trailhead for Doubleheader Mt. and hiked "BACK" up to get my pack which had my car key. So i should have kept my pack on the whole time. (Opps) Oh well i needed the red line!! And the road walk back to the car was tough so i recommend spotting a car. Although i didn't get any views till pretty much Squam Mt. It was a great hike and i seriously under estimated These awesome little mountains. |
