Comments
Comments: After turning back on The Percy Peaks I drove up the road and hiked Sugarloaf. The footing on this trail is very good and for the most part soft which I found most enjoyable. While I was on top (for about 45 minutes) the peak was in and out of the clouds. When views were to be had I could see blue skies quite a distance south. I only saw two other fellas (with the dog) on their way up as I was descending.

After this trek I took the Sugarloaf Arm Trail (a link in the Cohos Trail) and spent the night at the Old Hermit Shelter. This facility is a really beautiful lean-to with a privy and water near by. After dinner I read the entire register but even though it was built four years ago there are relatively few entries - in fact mine was only the second visitor entry this year with the first just a few days ago. Almost needless to say I was the only one there this night - something I'm sure many others could not say at various lean-to's in the Whites on this nice summer Saturday evening.

EPILOGUE: The next morning I hiked out intending to try the Percy Peaks again...but as I was doing so it started to rain again. I immediately nixed the idea and did not even make an 'attempt' opting to simply start driving south.
