Comments
Comments: we headed up the grassy road, which was wet early, up to where it ended at a large clearing with a bench and grown in view to smarts mountain. beyond that we followed some very overgrown skid roads through regrowth which eventually gave way to mixed open forest. the ascent was fairly gradual and we hugged the steep eastern slope hoping for views, but finding only restricted ones. just before the recognized highpoint we hit the yellow marked national forest boudary and a.t. corridor boundary. this runs right over the highpoint. we dropped down a bit south to the cliffs finding some limited views one of which was quite nice to moose with cardigan in the distance.

we descended on the same route staying more to the west at the regrowth area which kept us in more open woods and we hit the logging road a bit farther down from the clearing at its end.
