Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Numerous - no big deal. But we are in a drought, so maybe one or two would be more of a challenge at other times.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Numerous blow downs in the wilderness areas, again no big deal. Mostly very easy step overs. The WODC is to be commended! There was a huge blow down that seems to have been dealt with a while back. It must have taken them a long time and a lot of work on this one, as no chain saws or anything similar can be used in wilderness areas. THANK YOU, for the beautiful trails used today and others we have used in the past.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw one on his (I think) way to Passaconaway. I would be very careful with a dog on the Square Ledge Trail; many drop offs and a few steep scrambles. If you do go, bring enough water for the higher areas.
Bugs
Bugs: I got one mosquito before it got me! Prema had a few bites. The big deal was all the spider webs on the (little-used) section of the Oliverian Trail between Square Ledge Branch and Passaconaway Cutoff. Prema waves a stick in front as she walks, but this was not enough. She has arachnophobia, so I led the way on this section.

Comments
Comments: An interesting combination of trails - a good percentage is relatively flat and gentle on the feet, and then there are the very steep ledgy areas on Square Ledge. We did this counter clock wise. Passaconaway Cutoff was a gradual ascent, it doesn't get steep until nearly its end. In fact, I was almost tempted to include Passaconoway in this hike, but decided with my slow speed and having to drive back home, it could wait. Although Square Ledge is on the 52 With a View list, most of the views (which you'll see descending, if you did this ccw)are somewhat restricted. But it is a beautiful trail. Many tempting pretty places to spend the night, but don't do it, this is the Sandwich Wilderness, not the top of Stairs Mountain. Looked like a lot of areas in the non-wilderness part of the Oliverian Brook Trail where folks have stayed, just remember the distance one should keep from water and the trail. Wonderful day! This looks like it would be good any time of year.
