Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, August 8, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lot was nearly full when we arrived around 9:30 on a summer Monday. When we returned around 5:30 there was a car or two on the shoulder of Rt 113 because the lot had filled during the day. The lot was by then about half full. A lot of the cars parked there were from people who were swimming at Emerald Pool, about .7 up the trail.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: It has been so dry that the crossings are barely noticeable. Eagle Cascade was just a trickle. I would like to see it when it is running full blast.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in excellent condition. There are orange tape flags on the northern part of the Baldface Circle Trail indicating pending or ongoing work on the water bars. Trails appear well maintained.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Not a problem, heard a few buzzing but no biting.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: We picked up and packed out some plastic bags that were left behind at a bootleg campsite in the col between South and North Baldface. Also packed out for disposal a broken Yaktrax I found hanging in a tree. There is a Red Sox cap at the trailhead kiosk that someone put there.

Comments
Comments: Nice loop hike with Lone Wolf. We wanted to get one of the trails on the Terrifying 25 list. Our original plan was to ascend the Huntington Ravine Trail but forecasts for 75 mph winds on the high summits caused us to reconsider. We used the privy at the Baldface Shelter and found that some uneducated people had used the bag of wood mulch for disposal of TP etc. We dealt with it in the most sanitary way we could and threw the offending material where it belonged. I guess folks are not aware that the mulch is for "flushing" the privy. Maybe there should be a sign there to educate users as to what the mulch is for. We saw a mink at Chandler Gorge. A great day overall.
