Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There is one new looking blowdown about half way up the Royce Trail (from memory, give or take). The branches completely cover the trail so going around is the only option. I tossed aside a few small limbs along the way on the the Royce and East Royce Trails. These trails are well signed, blazed and in good shape otherwise.

Dog-Related Notes: Saw two just below the 'summit' sign on East Royce.
Bugs
Bugs: Hardly any.

Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: Day one of a Royce-Baldface almost loop started with a road walk N on 113 until a young couple asked me where Blueberry Mountain was :) I was encouraged by the amount of water flowing down low on the Royce Trail though Mad River Falls wasn't exactly falling madly. Upon getting to the trail sign near the top of East Royce I followed the herd path to the summit proper and onto the N outlook. Then I doubled back into NH to West Royce and enjoyed lunch at the outlook just below the summit. From there I continued onto the Basin Rim Trail to Rim Junction heading W on the Black Angel Trail and spent the night at the Blue Brook Tentsite. Here I wasn't expecting to see too many people at all but when I got there @ 3:30 all three tent pads were filled. I spent the night in the woods but even more people showed up later and dropped tents wherever. The water here is flowing well enough BTW.

Despite the fine peaks here and the great weather I only saw four people on the trails all day: three at the summit of East Royce and one other on the Royce Trail going W. A wonderful day exploring a pair of apparently lesser-visited peaks.
