Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Not an issue -- but good to see some water flowing in the streams, post morning thundershowers.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple of small (3 to 4 inches) waist-high step-over blowdowns on the steep section of Beeline Trail, about 0.3 miles from intersection with Old Paugus Trail. All trails but Lawrence could use a bit of hobblebush brushing, but nothing major. Lawrence Trail requires nothing -- in excellent shape.

Comments
Comments: We car-spotted at Champney Falls and Oliverian Brook, and timed our start at the end of the line of storms coming through, so that only light rain was falling. Within a half-hour up the Bolles Trail, only the trees were precipitating.

Nice to see some bona fide moisture on the ground, even if it made for sometimes-slippery conditions. It probably helped us, though, on the steep sections of Beeline Trail where the duff on the footbed would have been slippery powder otherwise.

Streams and creeks were flowing nicely, too, although still low because of the drought.

Paugus ledges were a bit dicey/slippery, but dried out by the time we reached the top; by that time, the skies had cleared and were blue with puffy clouds.

We didn't have time to bushwhack to the true summit of Paugus, and just enjoyed the view ledges for a quick lunch.

Lawrence Trail is lovely; hadn't been on this in about ten years and the re-routes done a few years back are very nice. Smooth downhill walking from the top of Paugus. Nice contrast with the Old Paugus Trail, which is wild and woolly (but fun).

We saw three other people all day, just at the beginning and end of the hike.

Lovely trails.
