A nice day exploring the trails at Castle in the Clouds. Took the bridle path/oak ridge cutoff to the high ridge trail up and oak ridge cutoff/faraway mountain connector down back down - 8 miles total - but there are lots of trails you can combine to get up and down. Trails were nice and dry only challenge was dodging the falling acorns. All these trails with the exception of stretches of the bridle path are all nicely graded roads - the entire loop is a nice and easy hike with nothing steep at all. Views from Shaw take in a nice panorama of mountains to the north and east plus part of the lakes region - well worth the visit. Everything was dry today - even the pond alongside the high ridge trail was completely dry. |
