Comments
Comments: I'd been meaning to do this loop for quite some time, don't know why it took so long!

From the Bennett Street trailhead, I did the long road walk over to the Whiteface-Intervale parking area first, to get that out of the way. This entire loop is pretty easy walking the entire way. The northeast half is an actual foot trail with interesting and varied terrain and some more moderate climbing. The southwestern half is railroad grade walking at easy grades almost the entire way.

I was delayed on the hike in by an enormous bull moose who was just sauntering up the trail. I kept my distance, but could see him up ahead as he stuck to the trail for a bit. At one point he crossed the river, then came back. He was huge with a full rack of antlers. The biggest moose I've ever seen. And then just like that, he disappeared into the woods. Amazing.

I stopped at the shelter to cook lunch where there were a few people. Outbound backpackers that I met said that there were 19 people at the shelter last night, who were being drunk and loud until 2:30am. :( :( :(

Jumping on the railroad grade at the shelter, it was an easy, if long walk back to my car. This is a spectacular loop in a very remote area of the Sandwich Range Wilderness. Beautiful! Leaves are dropping quickly, but there's still lots of color out this way.
