Comments
Comments: After a trip up the falls and to Bog Eddy and back, we decided the weather looked good to go ahead to Wolf Cub the longer route. Going left at the fork we followed the snowmobile trail under the highway bridge and then over the very nice bridge over Hardvard Brook. The snowmobile trail to Bog Pond is well marked and nicely graded. Just before reaching Bog Eddy there is a chair next to the brook and we could see 25 feet away where we were standing on the other side just about an hour ago. Nice view to Mt. Pemi (Indianhead) but clouds were about 3500' and limiting the vista. Just after the bog there are a couple of old cars off the trail on the right side. At the next fork we took the spur to the left marked To Powerline. We passed by a few more old cars on the right side of the snowmobile trail and on the left was junk hanging in the trees from logging days. At the Powerline we went up hill to the left and entered the woods fighting hobblebush and soggy ground, we pretty much followed the ridge right to the recognized summit. Woods were mostly decent, we were able to go around blowdowns and stuff. Cold and windy on the summit with a view of Mt. Wolf. We reversed our compass needle and just kept going the easiest way down, more on the west side of the ridge. We ended up hitting an old logging road a couple of tenths and followed it for a couple of tenths right back to the powerline directly across from where our snowmobile spur intersected. We wished we had just gone straight here and missed a lot of hobblebush. We were able to make such good time on the snowmobile trail and the whack was decent. Total mileage for the day was about 11 miles. Wolf Cub completes the NH 3k list for me, thanks Danielle for joining me.
