Comments
Comments: We started a short distance up the road from where we parked but not quite back at the HOL. Because the leaves had already fallen we could see Mount Cushman from the road and we prety much took a bearing and headed straight for it. Within a couple hundred yards we encountered some wet areas but nothing that wasn't easily stepped around or over. Walking in open woods we soon we hit an old woods road, the first of several within the next half mile and followed it a little Northeasterly until it began taking us from our bearing. Continuing through open woods for another quarter mile on our original bearing took us into some pencil pine but even these were easily managed following some moose paths. At about 3000' we found ourselves on a small ridge approaching the summit from the northwest. We managed to pick our way through and over a bump which showed that there was higher ground a few hundred yards further. We pretty much stumbled on the summit marker thinking there was a higher spto further on. Those trees were deceiving because they were taller than those on the summit but were on ground that was about 3'-5' lower than the marker according to my GPS. Our return was vertually a retracing of our ascent. A very nice walk in the woods on a fall day with Gordo and Rueben.
