We wanted a short, ice free hike to enjoy the gorgeous day (after hiking a very icy trail last week). The Pemigwasset Trail was in excellent condition. Temps were in the high 50's at the summit, zero wind, excellent views, and no ice to speak of. We ran into a group of hikers on a meet and go outing. Everyone was in agreement: it was a perfect day. We could see plenty of snow on the Franconia Ridge, but it felt much more like a spring day than a mid-November hike. The return trip was equally pleasant, and a quick trip around the Flume to take in the sights without the crowds, made for a nice ending to the outing. |
