Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Right out of the gate the first brook crossing past the campground was difficult. The Wild River Roared and every stream and brook was raging today. Blue Brook was extremely difficult, we went up and then down looking for a place to cross before settling on a way that required stepping on submerged rocks. Wet feet all day. Sad to see the remains of the Moriah Brook Trail Bridge laying about since it is absolutely impossible to ford the Wild River here on most days.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There is one large tree nearer the low end of the Black Angel Trail that will require some ax work, it was difficult to get around.

Comments
Comments: A bushwhack peak for both of us and a first time trip to West Royce for Danielle was the plan today. The weatherman was wrong, it rained all day but the sun came out just long enough for us to see our shadow for about 30 seconds while we were hiking the ridge. From the height of the land we began our bushwhack but headed around to the west to avoid thicker spruce trees and we were rewarded with open woods all the way to the recognized summit. Danielle found her first moose antler about halfway back on the quick bushwhack. The Blue Brook crossing was crazy today but we just barely managed by stepping on rocks that weren't too deep under the water just downstream from the trail. Glad we decided to get Danielle her redline on Black Angel because there was no way would have crossed Blue Brook twice for an out and back. Nice time on the Basin Rim Trail to West Royce, up and down, up and down and up up. No views but pretty woods, a moose called out to us and a big tree crashed somewhere right behind us. On West Royce the short bushwhack to the fire tower footings and artifacts was wet too. Burnt Mill Brook was lovely, the many white foaming cascades, loud crashing water as it danced off of steep drops entertained and wowed us all the way back to the road. We had dropped my bicycle at the trailhead and I jumped on it and pedaled hard to fetch the car. Dry Clothes never felt better. Another fine outing.
