Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Jefferson, NH
Trails
Trails: Caps Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, November 19, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room with spillover alongside the roadway. The Jefferson Notch Road in decent condition from Base Road. It is narrow and curvy so watch for oncoming traffic. Check the WMNF web site to verify it is still open.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good condition. There are two trees crossing above the trail at about five feet and some leaners all clustered near the pothole ledge outlook (near junction with The Link trail). These do not impede passage at this time. They may pose problems with a snow pack but I doubt the Caps Ridge Trail is used much in the winter since the trailhead is far removed from a plowed road and the ledges may be difficult.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No water on trail, some steep ledge sections, and abrasive rock surfaces may be a challenge for some dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Actually saw some flying insects in the PM warmth but they were not bothersome.

Comments
Comments: A relatively short hike with a modest elevation gain to the 5,712 foot summit of Mt Jefferson. Some of the ledges require a scramble and would be difficult if wet or icy. Luckily the ledges and rocks above tree line were mostly dry today so no traction required. These conditions will likely change Saturday night in to Sunday as snow is forecast.
Nice to talk with Lefty near the first Cap. Met three guys at the summit who were traversing the Presidentials today. Fed the Gray Jay chez-its.
