Comments
Comments: A fine day to be out, most overcast or in the clouds the entire day. Haystack Rd. was open, parked at the old logging road TH about 2 miles in, where there are 3 large boulders. Hiked it looking for a place to start the bushwhack. Walked in past the sand dune, 1/8 mile on left. Continued right for another mile. Found a path to the right, about 1/4 mile before the major stream, we decided to take it. It is well marked with pink flagging. Our goal was to avoid the ledges, but the trail was easy going and took us right up to the ledges. Two trick parts that would be tricky solo, but the group of 5 made it with a bit of help. Once on top of the false peak, significant blow downs blocked the well marked herd path to the main peak. After a few attempts to find the trail, it was found on the other side of some 25 feet of a major blow down area. It is below the first lookout on the false peak, but if you stay ON the ridge you will eventually rejoin the herd path. Maybe 6 inches of fresh powder on top. No traction need. The ledges is not the safest way to go up in the winter, and I wouldn't recommend as conditions become more icy. Thanks to the team for another great adventure, Sherpa Tom, Bob, Ed, and Kyle.
