Attempted a less traveled path by going Cascade Link up to Pumpelly to the summit.
A group had done the same route yesterday, but the overnight snow pretty much covered their tracks (and everything else) on Cascade Link past the Spellman junction. After about half a mile of breaking trail in my boots through 6-8" of powder, I decided to turn around for two main reasons:
A) To not destroy the trail any more than I already had
B) To save my legs for tomorrow
Snowshoes were definitely needed on the path that I took.
White Dot seemed to be the best trail to follow today. Can't speak to summit conditions, although the Ranger at the parking area did say that it was extremely slippery up top, and they were recommending full crampons. |
