Comments
Comments: The Mount Avalon Trail was well packed and no snowshoes were needed. There was also no ice on the trail. We all wore microspikes for the extra traction they provide, so as to prevent the backsliding than can happen bare booted in the snow. The spikes were especially helpful in the last .5 miles to the summit, just after the last junction, where the trail is very steep.

The views onto the frozen surrounding mountains from the back part of the summit were amazing, as were the views of Crawford Notch and the Presidentials from the front part of the summit.

Some members of our hiking party gleefully butt sled down the first .5 miles of desent (the steep part).

After descending Avalon, we hiked up Willard (see separate trip report).
