Greely Ponds Trail was a packed sidewalk and as was the Mt. Osceola Trail... I was able to microspike a ways up the Mt. Osceola Trail...then switched to Hillsounds Pro Light Trail Crampons when it started getting steep..though hard packed, the trail was smoothed by sliders and the few inches of new powder made for slippery going..full crampons could be useful..a few spots where previous hikers kicked stepped on the side which was very useful..MOT was pretty solid all the way to the Osceola summit...used the "bypass of the bypass" as both Chimney and bypass not broken out..snowshoed back from Osceola to the viewpoint below East summit, where the steep descent begins and switched back to crampons..used a lot of trees and branches to help the steep descent!! Not a bad view day at all!! |
