Comments
Comments: From the parking lot, we followed snomo trail #5 south approx 1.4 mi. At this point, we turned SE down a steep embankment and crossed the brook. We continued in open woods SE for a few minutes, and soon encountered a snow covered road that took us by several camps. At approx 1900' we turned right at a jct. and soon crossed to the S side of the brook. The road continued SE until it petered out to a skidder road that took us to the vicinity of W Dixville. We turned W up an easy grade in wide open hardwoods to the col, and then turned S to the peak in sparsely wooded conditions. We followed our tracks back down to the skidder road and then headed to NW Dixville aiming for the ridge a little SE of the peak to avoid any steep areas. Our route took us through wide open woods until we approached the ridge top. Upon seeing sprucy conditions on top of the ridge, we immediately turned NW and slabbed in stick woods until we turned N when we saw the open glades of the summit.
Conditions were ideal:
6-12" snow on a solid base
open woods or sparsely wooded - no tight woods or sprucy areas
nothing steep - all grades were gradual
