Indian Head Trail up and Pemigewasset trail down
Three of us attempted to ascend the Indian Head trail and I should have know from the looks of the lot that no one had been up that way in at least a week or two. It was post hole city right out of the gate for me.The two women I was with were a lot lighter and were post holing once to my twenty times. Snow shoes would not have mattered. After about a half mile, probably less, I elected to turn back and told them they could keep going. The rest of this is from the two women I was with......They said shortly after we split up it got a lot worse and stayed bad all the way to the spur trail to the summit. It took them 3 hours to go up and they are both easily capable of exceeding book time. Coming down the Pemigewasset trail the other way was a breeze they both said. just light traction was all they needed as long as they stayed on the trail. A few other hikers said the same thing. Wes should have just gone up and back down by the Pemigewasset trail. It would have been a two hour hike round trip, instead of four. |
