Comments
Comments: there was snow cover right from the edge of the parking lot, maybe 6 inches. There is about 2 feet of snow beginning at 2,300 feet elevation ( starting at about the Short Cut Trail). I wore micro spikes from the parking lot to the summit. The monorail supported me fine. If I went off the trail the crust mostly held me (only because it was so cold last night and this morning), but I did post hole a few times. Coming down, after the initial steep part near the summit, I wore snowshoes (not really necessary, I just wanted to see if they made any difference - they didn't). Once I got to the area where the boulders are adjacent to the trail I switched back to micro spikes and was glad I did. Nice day out, windy at top and cold from start to finish. If temperatures were warmer I would have been glad to have the snowshoes. There were very few postholes in or near the trail.
