Comments
Comments: Brook wide and free flowing at the trailhead - had to walk on the road to cross to the E side of the brook.
Carried low flotation snowshoes, but booted with microspikes the entire trip. Postholed once in a sprucy area near the summit - foot never touched ground.
Snomo tracks on a short distance of lower Bolles trail. The snomo tracks rejoined the trail at approx 1900'. Had we known, we would have stayed with the snomo tracks, avoiding the multiple difficult crossings of the brook. We returned via these tracks.
In the col area, we finally found a comfortable chute out of the col that didn't have icy conditions and/or too few trees to pull ourselves up with. This quickly brought us into open woods/clear cuts that we followed SW before turning NNW to the summit area. This is where we encountered 2 thick spruce bands. Deep, consolidated snow kept us mostly above the spruce/blowdowns. Great views from the summit.
Upon our return to the parking lot, there were fire trucks extinguishing a car fire. Apparently, the driver noticed smoke coming from the hood while driving by, pulled into the parking lot, and got out just before the car (2004 Lexus) burst into flames.
