Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: When I got to the Downes Brook trailhead in the morning it had not been plowed and a couple of vehicles were parked at the entrance - one in the 'funnel' - so I dug out a space on the Kanc's shoulder. Shortly thereafter a USFS plow truck came by and was going to plow it. After a couple of others who just arrived re-arranged their cars the plow truck went in, got stuck momentarily then gave up since the 'funnel' car was blocking the way anyhow. When I left mid-afternoon the blocking vehicle was still there and lot was still not plowed.

Comments
Comments: For some reason I wanted to do this loop clockwise but when I got the loop junction the west side had been packed out so I went with it. Shortly thereafter (at the <---) I caught up to the threesome responsible for breaking trail to that point. I took over from there to Allen's Ledge and then onto the summit. From there another foursome went by and broke trail to the East Ledges and then I broke it from there back to the loop junction. I'd say on average there was about one foot of new snow with a couple of soft areas pushing two feet. The new snow wasn't quite as heavy as I expected in the morning but that certainly changed as the day wore on, becoming quite heavy on my way out. Snowshoes were the only choice here today and all of the other seven people I encountered were wearing them...HOORAY! This should be a nice track one the others behind me are done with it. It was a bit drippy mid day with snow melting off the trees but most of that seemed be be gone from what I saw on my way out.

Mostly blue skies, abundant sun, warm temps, near zero wind and many fantastic viewpoints made this a very fun trek. Having the actual summit to myself for a while was a bonus :)
