Comments
Comments: Did this hike quick in the afternoon starting at 2pm. Snowshoes are definitely the way to go right now. Lots of really soft snow and at least 5+ feet of snow higher up still. Both main crossings are open and easily rock hoppable once you remove traction or snowshoes. Just past the second crossing, there are several sketchy areas where there are lots of deep holes that reveal 4 feet of snow with 2 feet of nothing under it with running water underneath. These areas for now are passable but if the snow breaks through they may be difficult to get past. Lots of people postholing and everyone I passed commented on how they were jealous of my snowshoes. The steep parts of Avalon trail are currently snowy, not icy but traction is a must. Preferably snowshoes. The rocks on the summit are only sticking out of the snow about 4 feet. It's definitely spring!
