Comments
Comments: What a perfect hike! The first 3/4 of the Cherry Mountain Trail had no snow or ice - we barebooted that. The highest few tenths of a mile had some ice, which we used microspikes for. The view from Martha was beautiful. We postholed a little bit on Martha's Mile - that trail still had some ice and snow, and was easier to go up than go down. We kept the spikes on until just below Owl's Head - there was a fairly difficult scramble there that required our boots to grip the (wet, slippery) rock. The view from Owl's Head was stunning; there's still snow on the Presidentials above treeline. On the way back we used our spikes in basically the same places we had used them on the way there. There was a small amount of mud on the lowest 1 or 2 tenths of a mile, but that wasn't a big deal. All in all, great day, perfect weather, and amazing views.
