90% of the trail to Mt. Willey was snow free. The remainder was stable monorail with a few postholes. Max snow depth was about 12" in a very few spots off the trail. Monorail and snow going fast and won't be around for long on this hike. Microspikes were a must for the section above the stairs where there was a lot of ice and frozen crusty snow. Lots of running water and puddles on the trail. The morning was a bit rainy but it cleared intermittently by early afternoon with clouds hovering at about 5000' elevation. |
