Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sandwich Notch Road - No Winter Maintenance, well no spring maintenance yet either! Okay from start to Beede Falls parking lot except a short section where west side of road has washed out. Up the hill to the TH very rough but doable in CRV and Accord, of Accord driver swore he would never ever drive this road again, I believe fng.. redlining!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Leaves - Significant/Slippery

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Minor from Old Mountain Road to Cotton Mountain
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some major blowdowns from Sandwich Notch Road to Doublehead Trail
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few dogs but only on the Percival to Morgan stretch. Hike is dog friendly, maybe a few sections where they would need some help.
Bugs
Bugs: It is bug season, half of our 10 person group wore bug nets, the other half wishes they had them. When the breezes were blowing no bugs. Mostly tough in the section from Morgan to Cotton. But out they were, black flies and mosquitoes down lower!

Comments
Comments: Great traverse, long 1/2 hour each way car spot. Weather was perfect. Trail between the notch and Doublehead was steep and there were some sketchy sections with tough pitches, we had a person that had to be coaxed up. The views once we got on the ridge were amazing. Saw one other group of 3 doing a training hike for Mt Elbrus in June. Ran into them on Doublehead and Morgan. Had part of the group do the ladders and the cave down from Morgan and some do the bypass. Seeing the views from Percival and Morgan I understand why these are favorite hikes. Once we dropped down off of Morgan the CR trail was mostly flat and cushioned by leaves. I was worried that there wouldn't be any streams for additional water so I carried a couple of extra liters as well as water treatment. Streams, small ones were plentiful after Old Mountain Road i.e to Livermore & Cotton, although with all of the bugs I was glad not to have to spend the time treating water. There was a great view in Squam with views to Maine in the section from Morgan to OMR. Livermore & Cotton had good views also. Even without doing a traverse any of these other mountains are great destinations.
