Note: there is no GPS satellite reception, my cell phone got some reception near the summit. Having an altimeter is helpful. Look for directions on-line. The sticks designate when to enter the woods from 304 A. The first part through the young growth was cut back some this winter and is easy. When you exit the new growth and enter the mixed conifer and birch forest, the trail is marked with flagging...for a while and then the trail mostly disappears and most of the trails I tried were made by Bullwinkle. I gave up and used my compass (it's easy) and just headed up. Found the herd path again near the summit. From near the Nubble, there is a trail that heads east. I used that for my descent. Again, it was easy for the steepest part; but I lost it lower down. By then I could hear the stream. My target was to pick up the end of 304 A and I succeeded. The easterly descent is tricky initially and at one point you are reliant on rope that some angel left. It's a fun hike. I saw tons of moose poop, moderate amount of deer and one pile left by Smokey. The view from the summit is really cool. |
