Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Bring water shoes or avoid the crossing completely by taking the road mentioned in the AMC guide which is 0.6 miles west of the parking lot. The water was above knee level and fast running. We turned back and then drove down the road to the old logging road.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns, nothing that you couldn't pass. About a mile up there are some high trees that have jack-knifed and look like they could fall at any time - might want to have trail crew cut them so no one gets injured. If the water crossing could be altered to make it easier and safer to pass in higher water that would be great.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None made it up Potash today.
Bugs
Bugs: They were out today, especially in the areas that were more exposed and in the parking area and on the logging road.

Comments
Comments: It was our first hike out for the season. There were no recent trail reports to tell us how high the water was. It rained yesterday (and a lot recently) and the water was high and fast. We saw several people turn around and do Hedgehog instead. I suspect a lot of people did that because including us there were only 13 people on Potash all day but the lot was completely full. Given how crowded the White Mountains are this weekend the high waters probably allowed us to have the trail mostly to ourselves today.
The view was great from the ledges as well as from the summit.
