Comments: Day 2 of an overnight hike...

Waking up bright and early near Stillwater Junction I headed to climb the 'back side' of Mt. Carrigain via the Desolation Trail. Yes it is steep but it didn't really slow my normal pace down - even with the overnight bag. I had the summit to myself until about 10 AM when folks started to arrive. I stayed up there until just short of 11 AM when it was time to make my back to the Kanc. Shortly after the Signal Ridge/Carrigain Notch junction I decided to try my luck with FR 85 heading S - and I'm glad I did. It is mostly overgrown - say waist-shoulder high - with a couple of thick spots and some stretches of wide open however there is a single track found all the way though. The WMG cites a dangerous crossing at the S end but it was very easy today. From there I took Sawyer River Trail out to the Kanc and walked a couple of miles before finally getting a ride to Lincoln Woods where I started yesterday.

There was a little bit of a chill on top of Carrigain this morning but the views were outstanding. Other than one gent at Stillwater Junction, a few people on Carrigain's summit and maybe 20 or so coming up Signal Ridge Trail I didn't see a soul all day.
