Got in a nice "run" on the Moats yesterday, enjoying the ridge and the great weather. Didn't quite find what I was looking for to connect the old section of Moat Mountain Trail to the High School Loop, pretty sure I didn't drop down far enough, but the logging roads and bushwhack was fairly open, and I was soon on the correct path. Once on Red Ridge, I hit the wall, and slogged up to the ridge sweating profusely. There was a nice breeze up high, and I cruised out and back to North Moat, and continued over Middle and South back to my car. Spooked a juvenile bear while coming around a corner in the blueberries between Middle and South, probably wasn't more than 8 feet away! Saw several people out on the Mineral Trail, and on the trail to South when I was descending, but no one on the ridge. Beautiful day! |
